Stop Googling Yourself. Run This 5-Minute AI Brand Messaging Audit Instead.

At some point this month, you’ve Googled your own business. We all do it.
But here’s the problem: your next client probably didn’t Google you. They asked ChatGPT. Or Gemini. Or Claude. And whatever the AI said — accurate or not — became their first impression of your business before you ever got a say.
In an earlier post, I asked: if someone asked AI about your company today, what would it say? The response I heard most was, “Honestly… I have no idea.”
So let’s fix that. Here’s the exact audit I run with clients — and you can do the first pass yourself in about five minutes.
The 5-Minute AI Brand Audit
Step 1: Ask the question your prospects ask. Open ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude and type: “What does [your business name] in [your city] do, and who are their ideal clients?” Don’t coach it. Ask cold, exactly like a stranger would.
Step 2: Grade the answer. Is it accurate? Does it sound like you, or like a generic directory listing? Note any info that is wrong, outdated, or missing.
Step 3: Compare it to your own one-liner. Now write down, in one sentence, what you do and who you serve. If the AI’s answer and your answer don’t match, your messaging isn’t landing — with machines or with people.
Step 4: Check your sources. AI builds its answer from your website, your LinkedIn, your reviews, and everywhere else you show up. If those say three different things, AI averages the confusion. So do your prospects.
Step 5: Score yourself. Accurate and consistent everywhere? You’re in great shape. One or two gaps? Tighten them this week. Didn’t recognize your own business in the answer? That’s not an AI problem, its a messaging problem — and it’s fixable.
Why this matters more every month
Search isn’t dying, but it’s no longer the only option. AI tools are now answering “who should I hire?” questions directly, and they reward businesses whose messaging is clear, consistent, and human. That’s not a coincidence. Clarity has always won. AI just made the scoreboard public.
Your brand voice is still the one thing AI can’t replace. But it can absolutely repeat what you’ve published — so make sure what’s out there is worth repeating.
You just saw what AI says about your business. If you didn’t love the answer, don’t sit with it — bring it to me. Book a free 15-minute Brand Clarity Call. Bring the AI’s answer, and we’ll pinpoint exactly where your messaging is the problem — no pitch, no obligation, just direction.
